About

Thank you for visiting my website.

Please allow me to introduce myself.

I am a proud husband, father, grandfather, small business owner, and dedicated public servant. It has been an honor and a privilege to represent District 33 in the Senate of the Maryland General Assembly since June of 2009. Before that, I was Chair of the Anne Arundel County Council from 2005-07, Vice Chair from 2003-05, and a Member from December 2008 to June 2009 representing District 7.

With the consent of the good people of District 33, I will continue to serve them in the Senate of the Maryland General Assembly

There are many reasons why I am proud to be a Republican blessed with being elected to represent the 33rd District of Maryland in the Senate in the General Assembly. My dedication to my constituents and my district has been demonstrated by my receiving the most votes of any State Senator in Maryland in the most recent election.

I was sworn into office as a State Senator on 22, 2009.

Legislation committees that I have served on include:

*Member, Finance Committee, 2015- (health subcommittee, 2015-);

*Executive Nominations Committee, 2015-.

*Member, Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee, 2009-15 (base realignment & closure (brac) subcommittee, 2009-10; environmental subcommittee, 2009-10; special committee on renewables & clean energy, 2009-10; education subcommittee, 2009-15;

Member, ethics & election law subcommittee, 2011-15;

*Chair, alcoholic beverages subcommittee, 2012-15);

*Member, Joint Committee on the Management of Public Funds, 2011-.

*Member, Joint Committee on Children, Youth, and Families, 2009-15; Joint Committee on Pensions, 2010. Minority Whip, 2011-13.

*Member, Pier Task Force, Department of the Environment, 2009-10; Task Force to Study Housing and Supportive Services for Unaccompanied Homeless Youth, 2013-14.

*Member, Commission to Study Southern Maryland Transportation Needs, 2007-08.

I am also a small business owner.

As the owner of a Nationwide Insurance Agency that employs ten, I know first hand the challenges and responsibilities of meeting a payroll. My insurance agency offers commercial and personal lines of insurance to a wide range of clients, ranging from individuals to corporations. On a daily basis, I learn from my clients what it is like to survive in challenging economic times.

As a coach for my children’s sports teams, I have learned even more about important issues.

Government has a role in providing and maintaining safe and clean playing fields. But it is the family that is most important in creating the student-athlete that will succeed and contribute for their company, for their community, and for their country. Personal responsibility and teamwork are a major component all sports. But that must first come from the family, not the coach.
